INSTALLATION AND SETUP FOR THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR
Hardware required for THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR are as follows:
*PC with 8086, 8088, 80286, 80386, 80486 and up microprocessor
family.
*Hard disk drive with at least 1.5 megabytes available.
*VGA monitor recommended for TKI graphics. CGA and Monochrome
*will function but will not utilize full functionality of TKI.
*Soundblaster compatible sound card with headphones or
speakers.
*640k RAM with at least 540k free for program execution.
NOTE: Certain memory resident programs may conflict with the
sound routines utilized with TKI. If you experience odd
problems, try remarking out these TSR's in you
AUTOEXEC.BAT file and re-booting the computer.
Information regarding these conflicts are very useful to
us at Educational Methods and a phone call to our office
at 501-229-1880 reporting such problems would be much
appreciated.
********************************************************************
To run TKI on a VGA type display, type TKIRUN and press ENTER at
the dos prompt within the directory you have installed TKI. To run
TKI on a NON-VGA monitor type TKIMONO.
********************************************************************
TO OPERATE TKI, YOU WILL NEED TO RUN THE SETUP PROGRAM PROVIDED.
To run the setup program, go to the directory that you placed the
TKI system and run SETUP.EXE. For example, if you place the TKI
files on the C drive, in a directory called TKI off the root
directory, then simply type CD\TKI at the DOS prompt of drive C
and press ENTER. Then, type SETUP and hit the ENTER key.
The following describes what answers are expected in SETUP.
1) THE DIRECTORY/PATH OF YOUR WORD PROCESSOR PROGRAM.
At this prompt you will instruct TKI how to automatically
execute your favorite word processing software. An example of
a response for WordPerfect is as follows:
C:\WP51\WP.EXE
This would assume your WordPerfect is in a directory called
"WP51" on the C drive and the WordPerfect program is called
"WP.EXE" which in the case of WordPerfect, it is normally
supplied with that name. Variations of this will occur with
other vendors such as Microsoft Word where you may have:
C:\WORD\WORD.EXE
Refer to the manual of your word processor for details on this.
2) THE HARD DRIVE LETTER THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR IS ON.
Simply respond by pressing the letter of the disk drive that
you have placed TKI.
3) THE DIRECTORY OF SUBDIRECTORY THAT THE KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR
RESIDES.
This can be anything you wish. If the directory that you
placed TKI in is off the root directory, you must precede that
name with a backslash such as \TKI. If you placed TKI in a
subdirectory, than that name will precede \TKI.
4) THE DRIVE LETTER THAT YOU WILL USE FOR YOUR PERSONAL DATA
DISKETTE.
To operate TKI you will need to have a data disk in either
your A or B drive. TKI downloads all lesson information to a
floppy disk to ensure privacy and prevent tampering of lesson
information.
5) ARE YOU USING A VGA COMPATIBLE MONITOR?
Indicate a Y for yes if you have a VGA capabilities and a N
for anything else.
6) INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE!
You are finished with the SETUP, and are now ready to run THE
KEYBOARD INSTRUCTOR.
